The Polish band SEXMAG burst onto the scene last year with their debut album under the slogan “Metal, hell, sex!”. If you still don't understand whose work the Polish quintet is continuing, then just now take your shameful ears and pour the music of mighty KAT into them. Because
By the way, some members of this band also play or have played in bands with fantastic names like ZDECHLY ANIOŁ and BRÜDNY SKÜRWIEL. Mam talent! But for now, let's focus on SEXMAG and whether they've managed to pay proper respects to KAT.
Answer: as far as possible, yes. Thing is, KAT's genius was not due to its pioneering nature genre diversity and exceptional extremality. What made it special was the interaction of Roman Kostrzewski and Piotr Luczyk. These two people, who hated each other's guts most of the time, created their best works only in tandem. To make the modern listener understand better: AGALLOCH band had an identical situation. Together - pure genius and magic. Separately - a pale shadow of former glory on the one hand (Kostrzewski / Haughm) and profane, talentless bullshit on the other hand (Luczyk / Anderson & co.). It is simply impossible to repeat the unique ”chemistry" of Roman and Piotrr's relationship.
That's why SEXMAG couldn't write their "Diabelski Dom” or "Morderca". Instead, they wrote "Inkubus”, "Smród palonych dusz" and a handful more aggressive numbers in a very authentic style of ancient Black/Speed/Thrash Metal. SEXMAG's music is somewhere between “666” and “Oddech wymarłych światów": it lacks the heavy-ishness of KAT's debut but it also lacks the intricately broken structures a la METALLICA from the second album. The vicious onslaught and voluminous analog (?) sound make it impossible to doubt that this record was created around 1987 and was simply waiting for its time since then. The album brings a great pleasure, setting everything on fire with its devilish dashing. I wish the vocalist would shout a little more variously... Panie Jacek, remember the immortal lines "Spójrz na wielki czarci ołtarz\PRZETRWAŁ NĘDZNE KLĄTWY" and how they were sang. You can do even better!
