I bring to your attention a new band with the participation of Anatoly Golovchenko (aka Metalov), the founder of Metal Race Records, a man and a steamboat. To tell the truth, he is one of those very few morally and ideologically worthy figures of the Russian metal scene, and being his friend does not allow me to cut my last ties with the Russian Federation and to hate everything that has anything to do with it.
ЛЕТАЛЬНЫЙ ИСХОД (LETHAL OUTCOME) is far from the first band with Anatoly's participation, but it seems to be the first one based in his hometown of Zlatoust and playing real extreme metal at the same time. The bassist was a former member of ETNA, the guitarist is completely new, the vocals are performed by a girl whom some readers of Bagnik Zine may know by the pseudonym Uralitsa Design. Stylistically, this is old-school Death Metal on trash soil, there are no additional tricks. Since Anatoly is a fan of old fart type of Thrash first and foremost, where instead of a fierce gallop they give us mid-tempo hard rhythms, don't expect something like MALEVOLENT CREATION from LETHAL OUTCOME. A few segments with blast beats is all they can propose. The album moves forward slowly, solidly, but confidently and incessantly. The guitarist works very actively, compensating for the lack of speed with the intensity of his play, so there is no time to be bored here.
The main word in relation to “Избыточная Смертность” (Excessive Mortality) - cold. The album makes me remember first of all ” Cause of Death" of OBITUARY. Musically, these are completely different entities, but they are united by a characteristic deathly feeling that hovers over cold landscapes where death has long reigned. There is nothing here but dead trees, mangled iron and craters from artillery explosions. A very uncomfortable place. Skynet approves.
Female vocals in this case work perfectly, since mrs. V.V. does not allow herself any theatrical deviations and sings strictly in unison with hard guitars and rhythm section. In some places, it reminds me of POKERFACE band, which played in a similar style until it turned into shit. But their songs were much more "square"; LETHAL OUTCOME still offers a little more intricate compositions. The lyrics to the album are as merciless as the music: apocalyptic predictions, hatred and necrophilia. The physical edition in the digipak contains a booklet with all texts in Russian and English inside. I often try to end reviews of debut releases with recommendations about what, in my opinion, should be improved. In this case, it is difficult for me to do this. On the one hand, the band achieved its goal by recording high-quality, true and smart Death Metal. On the other hand, I would not say that the album has some super-noticeable features that should make you listen to it right now. I think the main stage of the search for a musical personality for a FATAL OUTCOME is still ahead, and now this is what the band needs to do.
