Blitz reviews 82: ORCHRISTE, НЕЯСЫТЬ, ЧЕРНОПЛОДЬ, КОБЬ, RUNESPELL

ORCHRISTE – Necronomicon

ORCHRISTE was an old Swedish band that played Death/Thrash Metal from 1987 to 1990. It has only one demo on its account, which was reissued for the first time in history by the Greek necromancer Repulsive Echo. Of all the band members, only guitarist Patrick Jensen (WITCHERY, THE HAUNTED) continued his musical career. The demo contained three songs + an intro; these are pretty strong songs with high-quality studio sound, which are a little reminiscent of the early MALEVOLENT CREATION. The reissue also contains as many as 8 live bonuses - among them there are tracks that did not have studio versions. Unfortunately, the sound quality on live recordings is nightmarish, so their value is scanty. The value of the entire release is also not too high; it's good music, but there is nothing in it that would indicate great potential. Probably for this reason, the band ceased its activities so early.

 

НЕЯСЫТЬ – Круг Безвременья

НЕЯСЫТЬ is an extraordinary example of folk pagan metal of a very gloomy direction; recently, Russians have been very actively developing their "chtonic" stuff about abolished huts and swamps, but most often the result is some kind of sterilized atmospheric bullshit a-la ПУТЬ. In our case, the musician went the other way. At first, he played typical Russian fairytale folk metal with female vocals and swaggering Pushkinist lyrics, but then he fired all the line-up and independently made a disgusting "Круг Безвременья", where half of the tracks are tribal folk with a harp, and the other half is primitive evil a-la ILDJARN. Accordingly, the texts here are no longer about the "golden chain on the oak tree", but about rot, ghosts, corpses and other black mold. It sounds more or less like the author took the entire Sound Age Productions roster and shat on it with black diarrhea. What didn't I like? Characterlessness of sound on metal tracks. This is clearly a home recording with a drum machine, and in the chosen style, this is not allowed - you need to look for an analog recorder and bash it onto two tracks, making it even dirtier and filthier. And then НЕЯСЫТЬ will sound almost like METI BHUVAN, which is very good perspective!

 

ЧЕРНОПЛОДЬ – Суе

3 years ago I was revieving the demo collection of this band, and it caused me a lot of conflicting feelings. Readers need to understand that, although it is conditionally a metal band, the music here is not from metalheads and not really for metalheads. In a sense, this is Russian SORT VOKTER, with all the pros and cons that are quite obvious here. The sound is off-scale shit, most vocals are unacceptable shrieking, the "eclecticism" is more often annoying than not. On the other hand, there are a lot of good melodies, unusual solutions, and there is also a track where we they have a cat purring and meowing. The result is a mixture of honey and cigarette ash, which you can eat, but only if you like non-standard dishes like bull testicles or something.

 

КОБЬ – Въздохъ земныих глубин

I know that this is starting to sound like the fables of the owners of Spartak Moscow about how they could have signed Messi, Van Nistelrooy and a hundred other football stars at one time, but "Въздохъ земныих глубин" could actually be one of the last releases of Possession Prods. In fact, there is still an abundance of wonderful tracks in the archives of КОБЬ, but these people are quite extravagant, and after long vain discussions we gave up on them. But there was a label that agreed to issue a CD with three tracks in a ridiculous amount of 88 copies (we were required to release no more than 40 or 50, I don't remember anymore). All this is quite sad, because КОБЬ is a wonderful band with unique creativity that deserves more, but limits itself. However, "Въздохъ земныих глубин" is a logical continuation of the album “Давьныѣ покровы рипѣискыихъ дрѣвочащь”. The same deep and archaic Ural atmospheric metal, only with a better sound and more mature songs. Listen and take it, regardless of whether you have heard previous recordings or not. It's a pity that we can hardly expect the continuation.

 

RUNESPELL – Sentinels of Time

This time RUNESPELL got into Blitz, because I no longer have the strength to write the same thing again, and you should have already remembered that all Nightwolf's creativity is gold. Or no, not gold, but steel, blood, spirit and the pagan honor of white man, embodied in music. Specifically, this mini album which actually lasts half an hour, more than compensated for all the omissions of the slightly hacky “Voice of Opprobrium” (2019), again making RUNESPELL discography almost perfect. Each song is a majestic anthem. Hail RUNESPELL! Hail Nightwolf!
