The CARNAL DECAY band was founded back in 1991 by three teenagers, released a demo in 1993, participated in two compilations from KTR, and collapsed in 1995. The essence of CARNAL DECAY's work is well revealed in a short interview, which can be found in the booklet for the CD edition of “The Fumes of Shriveled Mass". If we put aside the funny statements that sometimes contradict one another, we can understand that the guys were interested in ”pathological " Death Metal (a la CARCASS) with an emphasis on technical parts and multiplied all this by their love for IRON MAIDEN. The intro to ”The Fumes of Shriveled Mass" is very melodic and heavy; you'll never guess what's coming next. But from the second track, the music takes on a very brutal character. By the standards of 1993, CARNAL DECAY really played quite technically. They managed to organically combine fast high-pitched guitar parts with unusual rhythmic constructions and primitive, visceral banging. Then they gave the music a "putrid" character through disgusting grindcore vocals. But at the same time, this music has an intellectual edge, which is provided by excellent guitar solos and all sorts of arrangements. The title track, for example, has a semi-acoustic interlude and even clean vocals.

"The Fumes of Shriveled Mass" does not claim to be a masterpiece or even a cult record. Rather, it is an outline of the potential that the CARNAL DECAY group had, but did not realize. Anyway, this record is worth paying attention to even today. First of all, because it emphasizes the sad fact: a small band of teenagers that no one really cared about recorded in 1993 a modest demo that sounds fresh even after 32 years. Because they were not afraid to play what they wanted, spared no effort for self-development, and sought to be different from others. And today I'm listening to hundreds of promos, of which, perhaps, 10% can be called at least the least bit original. Everyone works according to patterns or, on the contrary, they deliberately stuff all sorts of meaningless ”experimental" shit into their music without a glimpse of of good taste or common sense.

The CD edition from Metal Race has a 6-page fold-out booklet and excellent sound (obviously, again thanks to the efforts of the "ДАЙ Records" studio). There are no lyrics in the booklet, but there are two old interviews and a lot of photos. "Artwork" is positively disgusting: the rotten face of a corpse on the cover, maggots on the inlay.
