Shortly before my hand illness manifested itself, I received a large package of cassettes from the russian label Frosty Rowan. The owner of the label passed my ideological filter, and I agreed to inspect the current releases. I'll start with the familiar NOTHING project, which we recently listened to on the split Ural Megalith<\/a>. Its third album \u201cThe Perfection of Nothingness\u201d was released on CD back in 2020, but the cassette reissue has a bonus in the form of two rehearsal tracks. <\/p>\n

The album undoubtedly sounds better than the split, even though the material here is older. I think all the metal releases I've received from FR resemble Blaze Birth Hall in one way or another, and \"The Perfection of Nothingness\" isn't an exclusion. Parallels can be drawn both in the lyrics and in the construction of the music. Of course, NOTHING doesn't have that magical sound \u2013 the album is closer to NITBERG's \u201dNagelreid\", as it sounds sonorous and strong. The disadvantage, again, is that this is a standard modern Russian sound, where everything is perfectly audible, but there is no personal character. Other bands save the day with arrangements or high-dynamic compositions, but NOTHING plays very simple, purposeful metal, where everything is built on squares of tremolous riffs, and an additional arrangement or sample is less common than camels in the Urals. To be fair, I want to point out that these are very high-quality, talented tremolo riffs. Only in the final tracks does the tempo drop, and the main guitar changes to semi-acoustic, but the structures are still dominated by square shapes.<\/p>\n

NOTHING's music is quite sad, as in autumnally sad. Internet experts, of course, immediately labelled NOTHING as NS metal because of the swastika in the old logo and because of the personal beliefs of the musician. But I inquired about NOTHING's lyrics from the very beginning of the project's activity and found out that there is nothing even slightly NS about it. As for \"The Perfection of Nothingness\", sometimes it tries to say something very important in the high \"Kaldradic\" style. However, to be honest, it turns out to be about the same as with all other bands that were not part of BBH. That is, an inconsistent mess comes out, in which it is difficult to find meaning behind all these \u201cbursting souls\u201d and \u201cstreams of timelessness.\u201d Where Yaroslav criticizes religion or writes about his own emotional experiences, it turns out better. Interestingly, a single English-language track works very well, although usually it's the opposite.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the cassette edition does not contain any lyrics, but it does have illustrations that reveal the general meaning of each track. In addition, two bonus rehearsal tracks are included on the cassette. Details on a video<\/a>.<\/p>\n
