The band was founded by the live guitarist of MIDNIGHT. And the weak side of MIDNIGHT, in my opinion, has always been these very attempts to be extreme. Here, the purity of the style is respected, and this benefits the album. Energetic music with rumbling bass is expectedly reminiscent of VENOM. The songs are short, but very rich. The theme of the album is based on all sorts of horrors, so the music has an ominous touch in the vein of retro movies and books. Mentally unhealthy metal, purposefully trying to destroy your perception and arrange a whirlwind of various grotesque visions in your head. Everything is done according to the canons, there is a pleasant addition in the form of short sinister synthesizer parts, and the voice of the vocalist strikingly reminds George Fisher. Plus a cover by Juanjo Castellano that looks like it was drawn in the early 90's. It would seem that there is nothing to complain about, but ... like all recent releases of Season of Mist, there is a place for some polishing, as if the album was originally made not for musicians themselves, but for the market purposes. Therefore, if I want to listen to something in the best Swedish tradition, I will take some of the releases of Memento Mori.

Chapel of Abhorrence by Carnation

NAZRAK – Cantiques funèbres
Year of release: 2018
Label: Wolfspell Records
Rating: 5,7 / 10

Very sugary (just listen to those synth "bells"...)
