BLOOD CHALICE – The Blasphemous Psalms of Cannibalism

The second album by the malicious Finns, who began their career with diligent copying of BLACK WITCHERY. Unfortunately, at some point the band's ambitions woke up, so most of the album is boring Black / Death Metal with a bias towards the latter, and there is very little barbaric violence in the style of an American Cult. In addition, in order to get closer to BLACK WITCHERY, it is necessary not only to blast furiously, but also to invent very strong, testosterone-rich and balanced riffs. BLOOD CHALICE did not do a good job in this matter, so the worth of the release is questionable.
COFFIN LUST – Manifestation of Inner Darkness

Gloomy, oozing Death Metal with a grey, like it's cover, mood. One of the members played / plays in a lot of powerful Australian bands, including NOCTURNAL GRAVES and IMPIOUS BAPTISM. Fans of INCANTATION, DISEMBOWELMENT, CEREKLOTH and AUTOPSY should check it out.
BARBARIAN – Cult of the Empty Grave

This release was a big disappointment for me in 2016, because against the background of very strong Hells Headbangers releases, I expected from something with such a spectacular cover no less than the album of the year. But it turned out that BARBARIAN is a hopelessly mid-tempo and shallow Speed Thrash Metal that strongly resembles a shitty band MIDNIGHT. Quotes from giants like CELTIC FROST look almost like an insult - with such a lame material, how dare you?
MESSE MORTUAIRE – Nocturnal Demonic Visitation

The roots of the French band MESSE MORTUAIRE lie in the dead body of the SEPULCHRAL band, which was created as early as 1989, but was not very active. I don't know what SEPULCHRAL was playing there, but MM is the darkest Death / Black Metal, which reminded me of the iconic THE HAUNTING PRESENCE, which is a very complimentary characteristic. Check it out.

The Ukrainian one-man band HORYN debuted in 2017 with a rather weak EP, which for some reason spread quite quickly on the web, but I haven't seen any good reviews about it. This did not stop the musician, and 6 years later he released a much more mature introspective album “Голоси моїх зневірених думок” which was released on CD in Germany 2 weeks ago. Being partly a traditional Ukrainian atmospheric metal, HORYN nevertheless has several distinctive features. For example, the music here is often slow, and some elements - in particular, the guitar and the drum machine - are made at an almost indecent for modern times amateur level. On the other hand, the bass and semi-acoustic interludes sound surprisingly wonderful. In general, the author's ideas look quite attractive, but this is the case when the lack of professional approach doesn't let them to flourish. Under the guidance of a producer, with live drums and a better mix, something very interesting could come out of this album.
