Continuing to sort out what I had to review last year, I came across a compilation of the Ural project УГРЮМЛЕС, containing two recordings made in 2009 and 2011. The author of the music, of course, wished to remain anonymous. The Ural aesthetics of extreme metal has been formed for a long time, and УГРЮМЛЕС is its traditional representative. Those who know the band ВСПОЛОХ will see a lot of familiar places on this collection.
However, the works of BlazeBirth Hall bands obviously had the strongest influence on the project. This is especially well heard in guitars that have a similar melody and work very tightly, like on the third and fourth albums of FOREST. The sound, however, is very different here, especially with its expressive advantage in the direction of drums that hit your head really hard. But I also note that slow tracks and sections have no resemblance to BBH, and most often resemble something completely different. The song "Surya" sounds almost like a part of the work of legendary КОБЬ, and I wouldn't be surprised if the members of this band are related to УГРЮМЛЕС, especially since the new mini-album of КОБЬ was released by the same label.
I would not say that “С тропы / Из праха гибели” has any special value or pretends to be "cult". No, but it's a pretty strong and convincing atmospheric metal. Its sounds form images of the cold and arrogant Ural Mountains, which will rise just as coldly and haughtily above the earth thousands of years after our bones turn into dust, and the memory of us will disappear into the abyss of oblivion.
