102nd part of the short reviews.
SURGIKILL – Sanguinary Revelations
Year: 2016
Label: F.D.A. Records
Rating: 7,9 / 10
The debut album of the US band which employs four vocalists, including Stevo of the legendary IMPETIGO. This is Horror Death Metal in the best traditions of the genre. The album has very dynamic music and authentic bloody sound. Fans of bands like The GROTESQUERY, CARCASS, and IMPETIGO will definitely like it.
CEMETERY URN – Suffer The Fallen
Year: 2023
Label: Hells Headbangers Records
Rating: 8,2 / 10
A new album by famous Australian deathsters. A powerful, masculine, bestial metal of death with a fucking great low roaring sound. Pounds your bones into dust like a goddamn bulldozer.
VERMINOUS SERPENT – The Malign Covenant
Year: 2023
Label: Amor Fati Productions
Rating: 7,7 / 10
Chaotic, dark, primitive Blackened Death Metal, built on great riffs and solo parts. The most distinctive feature of the band is that the vocalist/bassist here is Alan Averil from PRIMORDIAL. For him, such extreme vocals are not something completely new, but it still sounds quite interesting against the background of boring PRIMORDIAL. The album turned out to be strong, no more and no less. Most importantly, it is not sterile, like almost all side projects involving popular personalities. Give it a try.
SEVEROTH – Шляхом Світла
Year: 2024
Label: Avantgarde Music
Rating: 8,2 / 10
Somehow I couldn't write a full review of the new SEVEROTH album, because compared to the previous album , it's a pretty small step, either sideways or on the spot. Which is also good, but I can't write anything new here. The structural properties of the tracks remained unchanged, the quality of the arrangements increased slightly, and the clean vocals became much better. The lyrics took an obvious direction, especially considering that due to the attacks of motherfucking barbarians, Severoth was forced to leave his house with a newborn baby in his arms. The sublime track "Сталевої волі сини” sounds especially strong. If you liked the previous album, you'll like the new one as well.
MAGISTRAAL – Fantoom van de Deemsterburcht
Year: 2024
Label: self-release
Rating: 8 / 10
The Dutch duo, probaly a family one. The man plays all the instruments, the girl screams in an angry voice. The music is something in the style of 1995-1996 Black Metal. It sounds very mystical, ancient, unfriendly and in a positive sense sloppy. The black-like metal from the Netherlands most often manifests itself in some kind of unbearable shit, but in this case everything is surprisingly strong and correct, especially for a debut. In physical form, the EP was released on a split with ZIELDODER.
