Blitz reviews 91: COLDROPE, SARAM, CAUSTIC VOMIT, LEATHÜRBITCH, PA VESH EN

91st part of the short reviews.

COLDROPE – Révérence devant la mort
Year: 2023
Label: Planetary King Records
Rating: 5,9 / 10

Over the past 3 years, the Belarusian scene has obviously suffered great losses in terms of both quantity and quality, and now we are beginning to face the consequences. First there was CRYSTAYLER, who, thanks to the sensational video clip, quickly and irrevocably recorded himself in the ranks of the painted fools, and now I've come across COLDROPE, who are almost "VKBM" of our times. In fact, the recording here is more or less decent, there are some dynamics in the music and a few good ideas, but we must understand that all this is morally outdated for 10-15 years, stuck at the level of old releases of More Hate. Claims about Black Metal also cause only laughter; a fleeting glance at the band's logo and related pages in social media make it clear that COLDROPE learned Black Metal and its ethics through the posts in the same VK, and no BATHORY merch will hide this. Finally, inserting a track from another band as a bonus on your record... I don't know how to comment it. Of course, nothing irreparable has happened so far, and even in the history of our country there are examples when such clumsy undertakings led to something grandiose years later. But so far I don't see any prospects.

SARAM – …Lima Hell!
Year: 2012
Label: Werewolf Records (this release)
Rating: 7 / 10

Old Peruvian metal from the members of EVIL DAMN, GOAT SEMEN, BLACK ANGEL, ANAL VOMIT. Contrary to the usual practice, the collection does not contain demos from the ancient times, but relatively new recordings from 2004 and 2005. But this does not change much, because in front of you is a characteristic style that exists outside of time and only in Latin America. For any parallels, refer to the above groups. Metal and hell!

Saram - Lima Hell! (FULL COMPILATION) (2012)

CAUSTIC VOMIT – Eloquent Requiems of Necrotic Decadence
Year: 2023
Label: Cemetery Profanation Records
Rating: 9 / 10

The Russian band CAUSTIC VOMIT, where my old friend plays, cannot be called very prolific (this is only the second record in 5 years), but it knows it's thing through and through. On both first and second demos, even a deaf ear will appreciate the incredible amount of work and thinking invested in every riff, every line. In the harsh style of primal Death Doom Metal, where everything that is possible is said and retold a thousand times, CAUSTIC VOMIT are not lost, as they have a fantastically deep feeling, knowledge and understanding of this music. Both longish songs included on the release have a very changeable character, but, thanks to diligently constructed structures, they remain tied to the main idea. In addition, the demo includes a bonus cover of THERGOTHON, which also says a lot. Almost perfect Death/Doom, and my only complaint about it is that it's not enough! Record an album, damn it!

LEATHÜRBITCH – Shattered Vanity
Year: 2023
Label: Shadow Kingdom Records
Rating: 7,6 / 10

Heavy Metal from the States. It keeps trying to go in the direction of KING DIAMOND (and I must say, the vocalist here is just awesome!), but the background of the musicians is still clearly different, so more often we listen not to intricate guitar designs, but to simple people's Speed Metal with great guitar solos. Very good!

PA VESH EN – Martyrs
Year: 2023
Label: Iron Bonehead Productions
Rating: 7,8 / 10

I will finish this Blitz with a Belarusian band as well, but with a proper one. Having chosen its path in 2017, PA VESH EN, well-known to the reader, does not deviate far from it. It is still very hostile, hardly perceivable, ghostly music with an impenetrable otherworldly sound. But the inner content was still gradually changing, as from the posthumous depression of the first demos, PA VESH EN gradually reached the "Maniac Manifest", which was controlled by completely different judgments. "Martyrs" is somewhere in the middle of these two poles: emotionally, the album is torn between violent violence and unbearable pain. What is really behind all this, only the hell knows, because PA VESH EN, as already mentioned, remains impenetrable. But it has been keeping its high level for 11 releases already, which not every performer is capable of. Listen at least to "Following the Pestilent Maiden" - you must to have a talent to write something like this. The new album, by the way, for some reason comes out on Inferna Profundus. Are there any radical changes ahead?
