Today we are listening to the release of the Russian band again, but, as they say in the West, with a twist! The fact is that the initiator of this review, as well as the band itself, was maestro Daemorph, a well-known bassist and artist from Kharkiv, who lived in the Russian Federation for 20 years, until in 2022 he finally realized that enough is enough and left. Daemorph is a long-time reader of Bagnik Zine, a man of healthy views and generally quite pleasant. He vouches for his bandmates, and I have no reason not to believe him, especially since I have also known one of the KADAVEREICH musicians personally for a long time and only from the best side.
Perhaps it is worth recalling that the musical path of Daemorph in the Russian Federation began with the well-known and, in my opinion, a little tasteless band ACT OF GOD, embodying all the uncertainty of metal of the early 2000s. But then there was the magnificent GROND, one of the bands that led the wave of revival of real Death Metal in Russia. Our mutual friend, drummer-vocalist Kist, just got into KADAVEREICH from GROND. In addition to him, the members of TODESTRIEBE and GWARLOTH were included in the line-up.
After receiving "Radiance of Doom", I was a little surprised to hear its sound. During the time of ACT OF GOD, Daemorph played together with the members of PSEUDOGOD, and it is with this group that associations immediately arise. A deep otherworldly sound with strong reverberation, as it turned out, was mixed at the studio of PSEUDOGOD's drummer, so this is not surprising. But the compositional techniques also have a lot of similarities: gravely roaring vocals, frenzied blast beats, a lot of tremolo riffs. However, KADAVEREICH's music is less fast and severe, which allows you to examine each fragment in detail.
As is often the case in this style, the EP tries to touch something grandiose. Unfortunately, there are no lyrics in the booklet, but from the threatening sounds of sirens in the launch track under the ambitious name “Invincible Sun Devourer”, it is immediately clear that this is not another session of sonic goatfucking. The songs, which are completely devoid of any frivolous or entertaining elements, depict the darkest images of a total apocalypse - this is felt even without lyrics. Especially when a synthesizer organ starts to play solemnly - it just can't be more epic. The final part of "CCCIII" as an example.
Despite the fact that KADAVEREICH goes in approximately the same direction with PSEUDOGOD, ARCHGOAT, THE HAUNTING PRESENCE, NOCTURNAL BLOOD and so on, I would still classify this band as pitch-black Death Metal. It's character is not at all chaotic of "bestial", it is intense, but thoroughly measured music, where there is no unnecessary noise, and the parts of the instruments are not tangled randomly with each other. For all its destructiveness, this is a surprisingly strict, if not ascetic, release. Against the background of its dour energy, the art from Daemorph on the cover looks a bit too fancy, but of course the artist know better which art to use on his own release. "Radiance of Doom" was released on cassettes and CD on Polish Godz of War, and generous musicians sent me both. High-quality print and design are pleasing to the eye, but, as I said, there are no lyrics in the booklets, and this is not good. Details on a video.
For the start, it's just a great record, but I didn't expect anything else, given the rich experience of the musicians. On a full-length album that will probably be released one day, I would like a little more variety, and there is nothing more to wish for.
