ANGR – I
Year: 2021
Label: self-release
Rating: 7 / 10
Belarusian-Russian band (anonymous musician, vocalist from TEMPLE Of NIHIL). In style, this is a very harsh and Nordic MAYHEM-cold, majestic, with a lot of poison in every note, frenzied blast beats and ”ritual" chants, but on a dark Nordic theme. If you listen to the album for a short time, then everything is fantastically good and true, but over time you get a little tired. The tracks last for 7 minutes or more, but the are not enough riffs for such length. Music of this intensity does not work very well in such Gargantuan forms. But it has a lot of potential, and I'm a little surprised that, even taking into account all the circumstances, no one has released the album on CD yet.
BASARABIAN HILLS – Attraction
Year: 2016
Label: Silentium In Foresta Records
Rating: 5,6 / 10
This was my first acquaintance with the Moldovan project, which is probably known to local listeners for its hairy logo and long-term cooperation with Der Schwarze Tod. I admit, I didn't really like the peculiar style of BASARABIAN HILLS music -it's a rather sonorous ambient with a looped drum and guitar as a background instrument. I have never liked semi-metallic ambient, in this regard I am a purist. Maybe it would have sounded better with vocals. Or without guitar and percussion. The result is a set of good melodies that evoke associations with educational TV shows about science.
BASARABIAN HILLS – The Path of Hope
Year: 2021
Label: Der Schwarze Tod
Rating: 5,8 / 10
So far, the newest album of the project, which I also didn't particularly like. Thanks to the press release, I can more accurately express why. "Starting as a blueprint of Swedish LUSTRE..." - LUSTRE has always been shit. "Spirit Of The Forest invites us to a fairytale journey through long forgotten landscapes from our deep childhood..." - exactly, this is very "fairytale" type of music, where there are no pink unicorns yet, but it does not remind me of my childhood either. And my childhood was, in my opinion, very good. "Black metal without black metal as it is" - well, there's nothing to add. I often repeat that nowadays everything where there is an electric guitar is usually called Black Metal, but I did not think about the ingenious advertising move: to designate something that is not Metal at all, not to mention Black, as "not Black Metal"! That's right! In short, I won't touch BASARABIAN HILLS anymore, it's not my cup of tea.
REAPER – The Atonality of Flesh
Year: 2021
Label: Iron Bonehead Productions
Rating: 5,9 / 10
This release of Iron Bonehead disappointed me. The duo from Sweden plays a punky Speed Thrash Metal, clearly trying to conquer the listener with their dashing and viciousness, but in the end it turns out dull. Vocals are shit. Aggression is unnatural. And there is nothing to listen to here, there are a million albums in the world in a similar style, much better than this one.
SOLITVDO – Hegemonikon
Year: 2021
Label: Aeternitas Tenebrarum Musicae Fundamentum
Rating: 8,4 / 10
Very dynamic traditionalist metal from Italy. In fact, this is ROTTING CHRIST, enriched with keyboard parts, as well as a variety of additional string, wind and bow instruments. Multiply this by Italian emotionality, and you will get an incredibly fiery metal that will ignite a flame in the heart of even the most hopeless cynic. A powerful and beautiful work!
