One of the best albums of the year, no point in blabbering around. HELLVETRON is a band created by Alal’Xhaasztur (BLACK WITCHERY, NYOGTHAEBLISZ, NEXUL) and Xaosforos ((NYOGTHAEBLISZ, NEXUL). These are absolutely right people, ideologically profound, full of hatred. Their attitude and beliefs deserving both the respect of other right people and unlimited hatred from degenerates from various minorities inside and outside of modern "politically correct" metaloid scene. The debut of HELLVETRON, released in the 2012th year, I bought after the first listening on Bandcamp. It did not impress me as much as the new album, but was remembered for its infernal atmosphere and extreme unfriendlyness to the listener, which is not typical of even the toughest Black Metal works.
“Trident of Tartarean Gateways”, however, is a completely different level. Either my perception has changed over the years, or HELLVETRON really did something exceptional, but in some places I am naturally freezing while listening to this sound embodiment of Hell. Even the darkest ambient albums do not leave such impressions. “Trident of Tartarean Gateways” seemed to have actually been recorded in the infernal abyss inhabited by nightmarish creatures. When I read a saga of Conan the Barbarian in my childhood years, I was agitated by the lack of clarity in descriptions of the most terrible things (this trick was borrowed by Robert Howard from Lovecraft). I still remember an episode where Conan, wandering through some ancient tunnel, fought agains shapeless creature in total darkness, and then almost fell into a pit of incredible depth, from where came the stinking wind and the insane sound of drums. I think “Trident of Tartarean Gateways” is exactly what a mighty barbarian could have heard before he died, if he fell into this pit. Besides мрачнющего Black Doom Metal, the album is filled with terrible sounds of unknown origin, causing a very unpleasant response in the depths of the soul. Involuntarily, I see the image of Alal’Xhaasztur, walking through the hellish corridors with a lamp and a recorder to record the voices of demons. Believe me, there is nothing funny about it. It is uncomfortable, wild, ominous, oppressive and - why hide it? - simply scary. If you listen to “Trident ...” in the night, feeling it with all your senses, the blood will freeze in your veins and the liquid shit will go down your pants.
Even if Iassume that you, the reader, is a dummy in the shell, unable to receive any emotions from the atmospheric side of music, HELLVETRON can still offer you a lot. Their metal sounds different from the works of similar bands playing in the same style, as well as different is their cool interaction of instrumental parts. Slow riffs and drums flow from place to place, changing shape and forcing songs majestically squeeze forward through the tunnels. Unlike most modern albums, “Trident of Tartarean Gateways” is extremely strict in it's attitude towards the musical direction; no breaking into crumbly blast beats, tremolos and other unnecessary elements that violate the purity of the style. hose few accelerations that you can find on the album are not even accelerations - the musical mass still moves measuredly. Also the indisputable advantage of the album is its conceptuality: “Trident ...” is performed as a black magic ritual of nine stages. The ritual is very long; the album lacks only ten second to reach the full hour, but in this case it is a good thing. Infernal abyss of HELLVETRON consumes you immediately. Then it does not matter how long you wandered in it, because when you will return, you'll be different, feeling that you have left part of yourself in it. Let it sound pretentious, but I believe that such an album can change something in the listener.
“Trident of Tartarean Gateways” will be released on Iron Bonehead at August 16th.
