World Terror Committee releases dozens of similar albums, which is rather tedious, but sometimes they come up with one that surpasses the rest. “Barshasketh” is one of those. The group originated in New Zealand, but quickly moved to Scotland, and now it is customary to consider them the British representatives of Black Metal. Yes, oddly enough, this is Black Metal, not some similarly sounding music about paganism, ancestors, warriors, or some kind of avantgarde shit. Britain has great occult traditions, and for me it has always been a mystery why there are so few Black Metal bands. Apparently, it's about laziness of the locals, so the cause, as usual, is taken by migrants.
Occultism and esotericism play a huge role in the work of BARSHASKETH. Judging by the facts that I've read, it is not a matter of superficial enthusiasm, but of serious knowledge about what is happening in dark areas of existence. With this in mind, it is not surprising that the band works in the vein of the bands with similar interests, recording its albums at Necromorbus. The music combines the cold blisters a la ONDSKAPT, the chaotic atonality of DEATHSPELL OMEGA and - very cool in this case - melodic approach of the latest MGŁA album. The speeds are high, but they cannot do without atmospheric slowdowns with “ritual” vocal parts that are obligatory for such segments. In short, the ingredients have long been familiar, but the supply in new proportions and under a different sauce makes the album memorable. It is a pity that it is a bit too much. One or two songs could have been thrown out, but obviously, this is not what the concept allows.
