Review: BLACKRAT - Dread Reverence

Year of release: 2018
Label: Shadow Kingdom Records
Rating: 7,7 / 10

The next album is one of those that one friend of mine likes to compare with a cheap wine: you know what it tastes like, and you realize that you'll got a headache later, but you still drink it. Canadians BLACKRAT play fervent, malicious and primitive thrash metal mixed with a whole bucket of all sorts of punkish substances. Therefore, the album is determined by the simplest sound, good tempo, catchy refrains and tons of dirt, which is felt literally everywhere. Each word flies out of the drunk throat of the vocalist along with alcoholic vapours. I wouldn't say that the musicians play clumsily, but they obviously do not bother about getting into the notes or something. And this is good! The mood of the music is vigorous but not really cheerful; it's kind of a drunken "come here, you son of a bitch" attitude. The best song in my opinion is “Coffin Rock”. What else to say - such music never gets old!
