Blitz reviews 20: MORBID MESSIAH, SELBST, THE EVIL, TROLLHEIMS GROTT, XALPEN

20th part of short reviews.

MORBID MESSIAH – Demoniac Paroxysm
Year of release: 2018
Label: Memento Mori
Rating: 7 / 10

The debut album from the Mexican fanatics of true Death Metal. The music, devoid of any frills, is a fucking deadly tank running on corpse gases and pus. Primitivism at the level of early AUTOPSY. It simultaneously attracts and repels; the album is great, but totally predictable.

MORBID MESSIAH - Howling from the Grave

SELBST – Secular Compendium
Year of release: 2018
Label: Sun & Moon Records
Rating: 6 / 10

Melodic metal with a mystical touch. It sounds good, especially for Venezuela, but, having stumbled upon the stunning “No pseudo devil worship, no masked warriors, just pure individual, audio darkness on high level. Traditional devastating Black Metal, no fun, no core, no mosh, no trends!” on their Bandcamp, I laughed at another bunch of stupid atheists trying to interact with the things they cannot even understand.

THE EVIL – The Evil
Year of release: 2018
Label: Osmose Productions
Rating: 7,5 / 10

Listening to this album, I went several times from “what the fuck is wrong with Osmose if they release this" to sincere admiration. The Brazilian band with the most beaten name in the history of mankind offers a rather peculiar stoner doom metal with an even more peculiar vocal, which goes a bit contrary to your picture of the world, although it is difficult to say what exactly is wrong with it. Within a minute, it manages to cause dull irritation five times, without ceasing to throw up new cool riffs and delight with a delightful sound. An interesting thing. And one can not ignore the fact that none other than Wagner Antichrist from SARCÓFAGO plays here on guitar! Give it a try.

TROLLHEIM’S GROTT – Aligned with the True Death
Year of release: 2018
Label: World Terror Committee
Rating: 7 / 10

Very long-awaited (15 years!) new album of the Finnish old band. The leader and the founder is the current vocalist of HORNA. The album is not really different from WTC releases line; another malicious metal of the North European type, although it should be noted that there are not so many blastbeat parts. The riffs are for the most part short and torn. The best thing is these small keyboard sketches in the background which can dramatically thicken the darkness and create a rustling sound. Good record.

XALPEN – Wowk Otrr
Year of release: 2018
Label: Morbid Skull Records
Rating: 6,6 / 10

Absolutely Swedish (despite Chilean origin and completely local aesthetics) Black Metal from the band of WATAIN live bassist. The music is malicious and traditional, but the vocals are recorded in some sort of toilet with the walls lined with tiles, therefore it is strongly out of the mix.
