This newborn (still not even represented on Metal-Archives!) formation from Canada gives itself off from the first glance at it. Looking at the name and at this giant blasphemous goat demon from the cover, you can immediately understand whose path this band follows. However, the end result given by Canadians is not so much like BLACK WITCHERY - it's pure ARCHGOAT. A funny press release claims that the band "does not necessarily mimeograph the exact same artefacts spawned by the overlords of this subgenre; unlike the other vocalists of this subgenre who attempt to offer cavernous, filthy death metal vocals, THE BLACK SORCERY walks in a slightly different pathway by offering glass shattering, piercing, ghastly black metal rooted vocals". Seriously, it says so, I read it several times to be sure. Now listen to any of the tracks below. If this belching from the depths of the bowels is "piercing ghastly black metal rooted vocals", then I wash my hands. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this vocals, but if doubt that person who wrote this press release actually have listened to music.
In general, as I said, we are dealing with imitators of ARCHGOAT - good imitators, much better than for example GOATKRAFT about which I wrote in one of the previous issues of Blitz reviews. The band has a powerful, fat and tasty sound that can even be confused with brutal death metal if you accidentally play some tracks in the middle (see "Circling the Drain" or "Helgeist"). Vocals amplify this impression, although it must be said that this "piercing" singing is also present here - in very small quantity. But the songs most likely were recorded either in different places or with different settings of equipment, because the difference in the guitar sound - sometimes very serious - immediately rushes into your ears. Music, not making a single step back from the canons of style, is surprisingly good. It has excellent dynamics, the smoothness of the transitions amazes with thoughtfulness. The general feeling of the profound wickedness persists throughout the whole album - in short, as scary to admit, it almost in no way inferior to early mentioned ARCHGOAT. I recommend "... And the Beast Spake Death from Above" to those who shit and cum in the name of the goat!
