At one time my work with the promo network of Darker Than Black was a complete pleasure - so I, among other things, discovered ÀRSAIDH (the future SAOR) and BILSKIRNIR. Do not forget about the split of MASSENHINRICHTUNG / RAVEN THRONE, which contains some of the best records in the history of both Belarusian bands. Well, in general, DTB - is a right (in all meanings of the work) label, which I am proud to to support, even if I do not agree that the concepts of NS and Black Metal can be combined in one abbreviation. Therefore, I looked forward to renewing cooperation. Unfortunately, the first release which I received from Hendrik Moebus for the review did not leave any strong impressions. ISRIKE is a young Swedish project of an unknown author with two EPs and one full-length behind it. "Wille Zur Macht" is the second one. The musician here demonstrates remarkable ambitions, performing a very versatile and malicious metal with abundant keyboard parts. The scope is impressive - here you have the primitive buzz of two and a half riffs a la the early DARKTHRONE, marching compositions with the voices of the nazis (obviously!), and grandiose symphonic sketches, sometimes bumping into a completely pop-tune melody. All the time the styles of playing the guitar change (which is a little confusing), the singing style changes much less frequently (but this is frustrating, since any short episode with the change of the vocal is much better remembered than almost non-stop faceless quacking).
Alas, all the ideas are killed at the root by the catastrophic sound. It's bad not as much in general the quality of the record as in the mixing. All readers of Bagnik Zine know that I usually couldn't care less about such things, but here the situation is different. The guy from ISRIKE reminds me of the cook who sketched a mountain of expensive ingredients in a dish, and eventually got oatmeal. All the parts on the album seem to be stretched out over the string, nothing stands out - therefore, there are no emphasized points, there are no contrasts, there are no incidents and culminations. Solid black and gray mass of 56-minute sounding. This, of course, disappoints because the potential of "Wille Zur Macht" is very high. But at this stage ISRIKE is not so far away from post-Soviet projects like ASTARIUM, and this is not a compliment at all.
