I received the mini-album "Cult of Death" shortly before the suspension of Bagnik's activities, and at that time I did not have time to review it. And this, by the way, is now my favorite release of DO SKONU. Formally, this is not so much an album as a compilation, because the tracks for it were created for five years (2008-2013), and recorded in an even longer time period. But after the first listening, you notice that there is a clear unity between the tracks, despite certain differences in sound. They are united by aggression, which can be called uncharacteristic for DO SKONU. We are already used to the fact that Maxim looks back at psychedelic rock in his work and likes to delve into subconsciousness a little, but on "Cult of Death" he reveals himself from the other side, demonstrating the sincere malice of the old metal, which Maxim loves and respects very much. The cover of КРЕМАТОР sounds like a close relative against the background of the other tracks. The title song is also closer in style and sound to the old Death Metal; the last two songs are already one hundred percent traditional Black Metal. These "sections" are separated by the gloomy 4 minute instrumental "Fractal" , thanks to which the transition occurs very smoothly. There is nothing more to tell here; this is a powerful mini-album that works in an outstanding way. 18 and a half minutes fly by like an instant.
The radicality of "Cult of Death" was reflected in other components of the release. The mini album was released only on cassettes with a circulation of 100 copies through the label of my friends Crypt of Black Fog (Rzeczpospolita of Decadence Within Records and Black Curse Zine) . No promo tracks, no digital release – buy or die. I strongly advise you to choose the first option, especially since there is no rip on the net and there should not be. The cassette looks great: pro-tape, all lyrics are in place, stylish design and no less stylish case with a black lid. The DOLBY STEREO logo on the cover is a very apt and appropriate solution.
