Review: BÜTCHER – On Fowl of Tyrant Wing

Year of release: 2024
Label: Osmose Productions
Rating: 8,5 / 10

Wild, crazy, unbridled ”666 Goats Carry My Chariot" by the Belgians BÜTCHER became one of the best albums for me in 2020. It was basically a minimally refined DEATHHAMMER, mixed with BATHORY and MERCYFUL FATE, doused with gasoline and inflamed.

“On Fowl of Tyrant Wing" doesn't disappoint at all either. The approach to music here is slightly different: the percentage of Heavy Metal has increased significantly, and the speed has decreased slightly. But this is not bad at all, since the intensity has remained at the previous level. There are already three guitarists on the album, and everyone has something to say, that is, to play. Also, I should noted the vocalist. R Hellshrieker sounds 666% according to his nickname, he has a very characteristic, powerful and piercing and expressive voice, which he uses to the fullest. In addition, he is also a talented lyricist: “On Fowl of Tyrant Wing” is, believe it or not, a conceptual record! However, you might miss it in this tangle of red-hot swirling guitar and percussion parts and frenzied screams. It's only in the second half that the album suddenly starts giving surprises. ”A Sacrifice to Satan's Spawn” turned out to be almost a ballad, on "A Gypsy's Tale (of Sex and Seance)" BÜTCHER suddenly presents the cavernous metal of death, and the long final song "An Ending in Fyre" smells like Greece: here you have an organ, and clean vocals, and traditional Hellenic style of compositions.

The result is an album for the ear and for the soul. Not just the explosion of living metal fire, but also great music with outstanding songs that are very interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Once again, one of the best albums of the year. Face the Bütcher!!!
