Blitz reviews 109: GOAT SEMEN, FLAMEKEEPER, 2 WOLVES, CHAPEL OF SAMHAIN, NECRONY

109th part of the short reviews.

GOAT SEMEN – Fuck Christ
Year: 2024
Label: Hells Headbangers Records
Rating: 8,3 / 10

The new (first in 9 years, if you forget about the recent split!) studio release of the Peruvian cult does not disappoint at all. Loud, aggressive, well-recorded and well-performed goat metal destroys everything around in 18 minutes - what else do you need? The only drawback of the release is the participation of the motherfucking clown NecroNose as a photographer, but screw him. Give it a listen. Fuck Christ!

FLAMEKEEPER – Flamekeeper
Year: 2024
Label: Invictus Productions
Rating: 7 / 10

Let me remind you (after all, 5 years have passed) that FLAMEKEEPER is almost a solo project of the guitarist/vocalist of DEMONOMANCY. On the debut EP "We Who Light The Fire", he recorded a promising and very impudent, fiery genre-denying metal about how important it is to adhere to one's ideals. I expected a clearer and grander development of these ideas from the full-length album, but I have to say that not everything turned out as it should have been. ”Flamekeeper" sounds lighter and more uplifting, but at the same time more ordinary. It consists almost entirely of traditional Heavy/Power Metal with Mark's beautiful, strong vocals. For all its interesting lyrics and killer songs like ”Raise the Banner”, for some reason the album doesn't inspire me at all. And inspiration is exactly what I see as the main task of FLAMEKEEPER.

2 WOLVES – Not Worth It
Year: 2024
Label: Werewolf Records
Rating: 7,7 / 10

An unusual release for Werewolf Records: melodic Doom Metal (Finnish, of course) in the style of NOVEMBERS DOOM, but with clear borrowings from MY DYING BRIDE and PARADISE LOST. It was these borrowings that turned out to be the most successful parts of the album. The transitions between clean and aggressive vocals, synthesized violins or sudden gothic-pop bridges are made with real talent. Otherwise, it's a finely recorded, beautiful and epic doom.

CHAPEL OF SAMHAIN – Black Onyx Cave
Year: 2024
Label: Nuclear Winter Records
Rating: 8,1 / 10

Very dark, masculine, dirty Black Death Metal from Portugal. The music is a mix of BLACK WITCHERY and ACHERON, with the vocals in the style of Martin van Drunen. Powerful negative energy.

NECRONY – Corrupted Crescendos
Year: 2023
Label: Regain Records
Rating: 8,4 / 10

NECRONY was once a part of the Swedish Death Metal scene and even released an album in 1993, but, unfortunately, it was neglected in favor of the grind project NASUM. The compilation "Corrupted Crescendos", as usual, contains the entire discography of the band. I must say that NECRONY were a very interesting gang. For the umpteenth time, I notice that the old Swedish bands that broke up were much more distinctive than those that remained active. NECRONY mixed the traditional Death Metal sound with grind elements like ultra-low vocals and all sorts of wheezy squelches, and also added sinister synths in the style of ancient science fiction films. And all this sounded more serious than the second album of ENTOMBED or any album of DISMEMBER, for example. I totally recommend it to the fans of the style, it's really decent music.
