Review: MARTELO NEGRO – Parthenogenesis

Year of release: 2019
Label: Helldprod Records
Rating: 7 / 10

I hope you've already listened to TOTENGOTT, because because today I offer you another project in the vein of immortal creations of Tom Fischer - more precisely, HELLHAMMER this time.

Again, I am amazed by these tons of bullshit from some publishers who send me promos. In fact, I respect them all, and I even sincerely love many of them, but who the hell writes these press releases? I just quote the pathetic: "Fucking off everyone and fucking every trend, Parthenogenesis is the band's return to anti-matter sonic vomit, a cacophonous conjuration of evil invocations and onanist celebrations in the name of the ALMIGHTY and ABSOLUTE ZERO dissolved before the inevitability of NOTHING, as only NOTHING is real!". This paragraph from a rather long text, spewed by a certain mega-brain, is indicative in the sense that, like the entire press release, it does not contain any useful information about the album as such - except for a hint veiled in the last phrase. Sounds like "musical journalism outpost" of Alexey Irineev from Russia. But he at least tries to work out his shameful money with a couple of phrases about the sounding of the albums in the reviews.

In order to guess that the “onanist vomit” actually means the fierce metal in the vein of HELLHAMMER, rattled in the punk garbage can, one needs a brain no less powerful than the press release author's. In fact, everything here is very plain and simple, no "antimatter" and other shit. No vomit even - the sound is quite distinctive, albeit dirty in a good way. The influence of HELLHAMMER is evident from the sound of the guitars and the construction of the main riffs, but the temper of the Portuguese is obviously more cheerful, and there is more than enough energy (two of the three participants play in so many projects that it is even strange how they have enough strength to write good material for MARTELO NEGRO). Therefore, the music often goes to metal-punk filled with evil joy, located somewhere close to the modern clones of the Swedish Death Metal or the good band USURPER. I mean, roaring guitars, constant mid-tempo drum rhytm, uterine vocals and all. Portuguese language gives the music a local flavor. See “Serpente do Caos”. Melodiousness is served in moderate portions, approximately like Heinz sauce with a big pizza. There are also short solos with a characteristic punk sound. In general, the whole project leaves the impression that it was organized just for fun, but the result suddenly turned out to be much better than expected. I must note that 42 minutes is a bit too much for this album - half an hour would be just right. However, I recommend you to listen to it until the very end, because the last song is the best thing on the album.
