Review: THULSA DOOM – Realms of Hatred

Year of release: 2018
Label: Invictus Productions
Rating: 7,9 / 10

A great new band from Italy - quite surprising. The THULSA DOOM trio, created just a year ago, offers its first demo that possess some exceptional virtues. In a nutshell, this is a very old-fashioned Death Metal, resurrecting that brief moment when the genre has already gained its independence, but has not yet had time to rush into a meaningless pursuit of speed and technicality. The time reference is the mid-to-end 80s of XX century. The musical reference is SADISTIC INTENT, NECROVORE, the earliest recordings of MORBID ANGEL. Enviable intensity and simplicity in one bottle.

The band managed to record truly tenacious songs, in which there is a place both for tribute to traditions and independent thinking. However, the main advantage of the release to me is successful recreation of the atmosphere which THULSA DOOM clearly sought. The demo possesses an archaic warlike spirit, referring to a well-known universe. It's straightness and sharpness hit as hard as two-handed barbarian sword. In the world of this Italian band, fire, black magic and creed of iron rule. To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women - what can be better in life?
