Review: RUACH RAAH – Under the Insignia of Baphomet

Year of release: 2018
Label: War Arts Productions
Rating: 6,66 / 10

The Portuguese band with a Celtic-sounding title presents its second full-length album. The musicians hide their personalities, but they look like inveterate extremists, starting from balaclavas and finishing with badges with logos of the most evil acts. The cover of "Under the Insignia of Baphomet" immediately gives out the adherence to the old traditions of Black Metal, however I will be frank - the music on it still represents a modern rethinking of these traditions. What the Portuguese are doing is close to creativity of the bands like RAVENCULT: sharp metal with some punk feeling and chainsaw guitars, which tend not to religious practices, but to unmotivated violence. In 99% of cases, this music sounds exactly the same, no matter what band performs it. RUACH RAAH is no exception. But for some reason I want to believe them. Their anger and hatred do not seem fake. Of course, in such cases everything depends on the mood. And at the moment the blind aggression of Portuguese band is very much to my liking. Whether this feeling will survive in a day, a week, a month - I can not say.
